Reverse Engineering &
Scan-to-CAD in Michigan

Physical part → professional 3D scan → SOLIDWORKS model → dimensioned engineering drawing. All in one shop, in Clinton Township, Michigan. No mailing parts cross-country. Einstar VEGA professional scanner. Fixed project pricing from $300.

The Complete Process

From physical part to engineering drawing — in one place.

Drop Off Your Part
Bring your part to our Clinton Township facility or ship it to us. Parts from a few inches to several feet. We log it in and confirm the scope before any work begins.
Professional 3D Scan
Einstar VEGA structured-light scan at 0.05 mm accuracy. Point cloud and mesh generated. Color texture available. All data stored locally under your NDA — no third-party processing.
SOLIDWORKS Model
Scan mesh converted to parametric SOLIDWORKS solid model. Feature recognition, surface reconstruction, and design intent captured. Native .SLDPRT + STEP + IGES delivered.
Engineering Drawing
Full dimensioned drawing with tolerances, surface finish callouts, and GD&T annotation on request. PDF + SOLIDWORKS drawing file. Print-ready for your manufacturer.
Quality Check
Scan-to-CAD dimensional comparison. Key features verified against the original part. Deviation report available on request for critical dimensions.
Delivery + Provenance
All files delivered digitally. Originals returned. RigidVault provenance record filed — cryptographic timestamp proving your IP ownership from the delivery date.
Why Local Reverse Engineering Matters

Your parts are proprietary. Act accordingly.

Most reverse engineering services are national firms that ask you to ship your parts to a facility you have never seen, staffed by people operating under terms you did not negotiate. Your part geometry, your manufacturing tolerances, your surface finish specifications — these are competitive intelligence. They travel with your part.

Dropping off at our Clinton Township facility means:

  • Your part never leaves the state of Michigan until it comes back to you
  • You can watch the intake process if you want to
  • A mutual NDA is signed before any scan data is created
  • All scan data is stored in RigidVault under your account with a cryptographic timestamp
  • 30 minutes from most of Macomb County — same-day drop-off and pickup available

DeWys Engineering in Wixom and several Lansing firms serve this market. None are in Macomb County. None include the RigidEngineering SOLIDWORKS conversion and drawing service in the same shop. None give you a provenance record.

NDA standard on every industrial reverse engineering project. Your part geometry is your IP. We treat it that way from the moment it comes through the door.
What We Reverse Engineer

If it is physical, we can capture it.

Machined Parts & Castings
Turned, milled, cast, and forged components. Housings, brackets, manifolds, impellers. Complex organic surfaces handled via mesh reconstruction. From $300.
🔩
Tooling & Fixtures
Jigs, fixtures, forming tools, molds, and dies. Capture the as-built geometry before wear takes it. Critical for tooling repair, duplication, and documentation. From $350.
🚘
Automotive Components
Body panels, brackets, trim pieces, mechanical assemblies. Automotive-grade dimensional accuracy. GD&T to ASME Y14.5. Compatible with CATIA, NX, and SOLIDWORKS downstream.
Aerospace & Defense Parts
Flight hardware, structural components, brackets. NDA mandatory. Scan data sovereign on RigidVault. ITAR-sensitive work handled with appropriate documentation.
🧞
Medical & Industrial Equipment
Equipment housings, medical device components, industrial machine parts. When OEM drawings are unavailable and the part must be reproduced exactly.
🏭
Production Line Components
Worn conveyor components, legacy machine parts, obsolete hardware with no surviving drawings. Scan the last good part. Draw it. Make more.

Questions

Reverse engineering — answered.

The Einstar VEGA delivers point accuracy down to 0.05 mm (50 microns). For most mechanical parts, this is more than sufficient for reverse engineering and reproduction. For very tight tolerance work (below 0.02 mm), we discuss measurement strategy at intake and may recommend supplementary CMM measurement for critical features.
Yes — by appointment at our Clinton Township, Michigan facility. We are 30 minutes from most of Macomb County. Drop-off, intake review, and scope confirmation happen at the same visit. Same-day drop-off and pickup is available for straightforward parts with a scheduled appointment.
That is the most common reason for reverse engineering. We scan the physical part as it exists, create the parametric model from the scan geometry, and develop the drawing from that model. If the part has wear, we discuss whether to model the worn geometry or the theoretical nominal geometry — you decide what the drawing should represent.
Yes. The mutual NDA is executed before the part is brought in or any description of it is shared. The NDA covers the part geometry, scan data, CAD model, drawings, and any manufacturing context you share with us. All scan data is stored in RigidVault under your account with a cryptographic timestamp — we cannot access it without your credentials.

Part with no drawings? We fix that.
